Go, Gulager, go!

This blog didn't spring up until after the last season of "Project: Greenlight" wrapped, which is a shame, as I would have waxed weekly about my fascination with bath-obsessed John Gulager. But the good news is that Dimension finally has a release date for Gulager's "Feast." Horror's not usually my bag, but anything I can do to ensure the continuation of the man's career, I shall do.

well it's about time! project greenlight has always been one of my favorite shows. the gulager season was excellent!

for everything he went through, "feast" deserves to be released.

the studios never gave these filmakers much of a chance with a tiny budget, and a short time frame to complete the movie.

of course, the ensuing stress caused for riveting tv, for me at least.

i guess there's not much chance of it ever coming back.

i'd settle for a chris moore reality show? lol

i haven't heard much about the season 2 contestants, but i think pete jones from season 1 did a 2nd movie.

not sure what gulager, or the 2 writers from season 3 have been up to since "feast" wrapped.

Oooh....I'm excited! I check Yahoo Movies periodically to see if a release date had been set. So glad they are finally doing it.

Like Mike said - I'd LOVE a Chris Moore reality show!

Hey Alan, not to harsh the mellow of your blog or anything, but I'm taking a journalism course, and I was wondering if I could interview you about your job?

It was referenced in the Project Greenlight episodes that the "Feast" writers had been hired to write a "Highlander" movie. Personally, I thought the "Feast" script was pretty horrid, but Gulager is a fascinating trainwreck to watch.

I was wondering if they would ever get around to releasing "Feast."

Gulager was certainly entertaining to watch, I'll give him that. But his insistence on casting the entire Gulager family in the film was ridiculous and made him look like an idiot.

I don't know that Gulager was so far out of line with the family thing -- he just articulated himself badly because he has no people skills. It's not like Jenny Wade or Judah Friedlander (who got the parts he wanted to go to his sister and brother) are box office draws of any kind. If Gulager felt his family could best play these roles, not only would it have made the experience on-set easier (four people who speak fluent Gulager instead of two), but it probably would have made for a decent publicity hook for the movie beyond "The latest product of the flailing 'Project Greenlight' franchise." You might get EW or Premiere or somebody to write a story focusing more on the Gulagers than on "Stolen Summer" and "The Battle of Shaker Heights."

I do find it ironic that the season that produced what seems to be by far the best of the Greenlight movies was also by far the lowest-rated. But add my vote to the ranks of people who want "The Chris Moore Show" to go into production today -- preferably with weekly visits by Gulager.

alan,

what are the chances that, should 'feast' makes decent box office money, the series would return?

obviously a studio needs to step up and offer the funding, crew, etc. do you think that could happen if 'feast' does well?

the tv show was a great look at how a movie is made. once it went to bravo, ratings took a major nosedive.

maybe the maloof brothers could help fund the return of the series lol

I don't think the success of "Feast" would help ensure another season of "Greenlight" any more than the failures of the first two movies prevented additional seasons. If "Feast" is a hit, it won't be because of "Greenlight" -- it'll be because horror movies have a good track record, and because it seems like it's going to be a good movie.

Chris Moore and company need to find somebody willing to pay for production costs (I think the Weinsteins have lost interest in that part), as well as find somebody willing to air a show with a terrible ratings track record. I just don't think it's gonna happen.
